Kyre wasn’t finding it easy. Stars alone knew how much this thing weighed, or how to make it respond to the froiking wheel within five minins of turning it; or how to make it turn more than one point; or how to unfasten two of the great cleats from the windward side so it would go somewhere else.
But it was koh. Slow and unsure, clearly uncontrolled. Yes… the fort is still ahead… and all will be just fine.
The final hundred paces made for a nervous time. The Casimere Glory seemed to pick up speed in a wind flurry, lurching ahead, as though leaping over hidden rocks, aiming straight into a gap in the rocks.
The grinding crash was enormous. It went on and on, shattering all along the length of the ship.
Oops, thought Kyre, must have been a sudden storm… a squall from nowhere. And picked himself up from the deck… The drugged sailors, soldiers and others had slid forward into unconscious heaps. There were shouts from below.. panicking. ‘Some I missed,’ Kyre took a few more capsules from his pouch and waited. Confused men staggering up, one with a bloodied nose, one holding a burned sleeve; all toppling to the planking. Surveying the scene around him, Kyre thought it didn’t look too bad…
