Of Southern Seas and Demonic Undercurrents - What lies beneath the mask?

Every true chronicle of an epic saga tests its boundaries, charting entirely unknown waters. Kyre’s great odyssey – stretching through the pages of an 18-volume legend – takes its narrative strength to new, expanding horizons. He trades guerrilla battles with hill bandits for great pirate vessels; fortress sieges for the lawless, unpredictable dangers of an oceanic frontier.

On the eve of the worldwide release of Book 11 – Jessica, the map shifts eastwards and southwards. Away from Adam’s Landing, Gate Isle and the Northern Louna Chain, to the most treacherous seas and volatile harbours in the Realm of Coast and Isles.

The contrast is stark. The incantations and potions of the Rua Sisterhood are spurned anew; the erratic commands of mainland lords are left behind in the ash of Beacon Hill, the ruins of Fort Breganna.
In their place stands a vibrant, aggressive cutthroat maritime theatre. Dominated by wealthy merchant lines, ostentatious pirate dandies, and cutthroat sea-brigands who hold the southern trade routes in a lethal chokehold, Kyre has little idea what he faces as each new island breaks his horizon.

But the true heart of this new realm is found far from the bustling docks – on the isolated, storm-lashed shores of Jem Island.
It is here that Kyre seeks a temporary respite to heal his heavily scarred body and commune with his guardian star, Syrtius.
The plan for that day is sun and a few drinks, and do all he can to please the island girls in their desire for off-island breeding opportunities. Instead of peace, his fated steps along the beach collide with a half-buried castaway girl in the sand – Jessica

If Beacon Hill was the turning point for Kyre, from tortured warrior to seeker of destiny, is that walk along the isolated beach on Jem Isle the Rubicon moment for the realms? Something will change… but for the better? Or the infinitely more demonic?
What has the sand and washed-up seaweed been hiding? An apparently innocent Sea Waif rescued from parched starvation? But what do the mariners’ beliefs tell of the Sea Waif Legend? An unwanted castaway child? A shipwrecked castaway? A figurehead legend of pirate tales? Or a demonic nymph of Thalassor’kauth, of the abyssal depths?

As the pages slip by, and the islands swell into sight; the pirates swagger and kill; and merchant lords scheme and profit, so Jessica changes. Harbouring a growing, uncontrolled cosmic power, she is an entity of unpredictable peaks and troughs, a force whose true nature hides beneath. A dark undercurrent? Or a swelling bloom?
She prompts the ultimate question of the new arc: What lies beneath the mask?

From the chaotic alleys of the Insel Port to the treacherous doldrum wastes of the Vistin Ocean, the scale of the world is expanding. As guardian of the Sprite of the Abyss, Kyre is no longer a pawn fighting for an ungrateful lord, or a conspiring sisterhood: he is a seeker of destiny, commanding his own vessel, the Wave Ayann, into the teeth of the gathering storm.

And so the sea-lanes beyond the Tearapart Gap are primed to fracture, as the merchant houses plot and collude, and pirate governors and island lords covet the Sea Waif for their own dark sacrifices.
The ocean and the scattered arcs of islands become the battleground of the fated.

Whether it's the brigands of island and sea, or Kyre and the Sea Waif who at are fated, the Five Realms will never be the same again.
Prepare to set sail. 'Jessica’ – Realms of Kyre Book 11 – launches worldwide tomorrow, 23 October 2026.
